Dave McAleavy - a photographer from Lancashire, England
I was born in 1959, in Liverpool and moved to Ashton in Makerfield near Wigan in 1964. I currently reside at High Moor, Wrightington, near Parbold, Lancashire.

My full time profession is that of coastal and countryside manager for Sefton, a local authority in North West England. Photography is something, which as you can see, has considerable overlap.

I recall my first photograph, taken in 1974 and my first SLR came along in 1980 - I have been annoying friends and family ever since. My slide collection, hidden away for many years, is only now surfacing because of the digital revolution and of course knowledge gained from numerous well-known experts relating to managing noise and sharpening strategy.

The opportunity to restore some of the many thousands of slides and prints in my possession as well as family archive pictures dating back to what seems to be the 1890’s is something I do not wish to see pass me by - but how do I share this with others?

My mother who is 74, recently received from Ireland a paper bag that contained many photographs, including some with family members in WW1 Irish Army uniform, a tangled mess of medium format negative of photographs that never got to print, one box of exposed Ilford HP3 glass plate and a box of unused Kodak Photographic glass plates….

Although I knew my Nan was employed colouring negatives by Lafayette’s in Dublin and that Grandad Treacher was always taking pictures...big pictures, I only found out recently that he was a professional photographer and used to be collected by car to take pictures of De Valera’s children - I would like to research that story one day!

A publisher friend recently suggested an internet site to promote my work, my Mum recently commented on how it would be nice for a relative in NZ to have a copy of a restored picture I did for her and lastly, Imogen my wife reading a photographic magazine, stated why don’t you have a web site.

So here it is, but please recognise that ‘People Gallery’ is solely for sharing pictures with family and friends around the world – hopefully to enthuse others to do the same.

I hope you enjoy my pictures just as much as I have enjoyed taking them over the years.
