Ribble Coast & Wetlands
The Ribble Coast and Wetlands is one of the most important places in Europe for wildlife. This environmental significance together with its location between Merseyside and the Lake District, and the coastal resorts of Southport and Lytham St Annes has resulted in its being recognised as a potential regional park for the north west.
The Ribble Estuary is the funnel-shaped area to the west of the city of Preston where the River Ribble meets the Irish Sea. The area it covers stretches from Formby Point in Merseyside north to Rossell Point near Fleetwood and upstream to the tidal limit Preston.
A number of organisations are working together to enhance and promote this amazing destination, and encourage visitors to a place they will enjoy and return to.
